What is PDR?
Paintless Dent and Hail repair is not something new! It was founded in 1960 during the Auto Show. PDR is the slang term that people in “The Business” use. Vehicle manufactures like Mercedes Benz and BMW along with body shop repair technicians were looking for a way to repair dents without using fillers and matching paint colors. They discovered if they pushed the dent out of the fender, door or roof that the original paint remained in perfect condition.
An experienced paint and hail repair technician will use metal rods to push the dent or ding from the hood, roof, door or fender of your vehicle. Typically they do this for the underside of the panel and often times, this requires them to remove truck headliners or car door panels in order to be able to access the hail damage in the precise location that needs to be repaired. A highly qualified paint and dent technician can skillfully blend in the high spots in the damaged area to match the orange peel in the paint making it invisible to the naked eye. Another trick of the trade is to use LED lighting when performing dent and hail repairs. The technician needs to be mindful of pushing too hard to prevent cracks in the factory paint finish of your car fender, door or roof. Also when necessary they may need to use heat when repairing hail damage to make the paint more pliable to prevent stress cracks in the finish.
